I'm Having Problems Opening My Folders

So Im new to Linux, and Im not sure what went wrong, but a while back I was working on a picture in Inkscape and I tried to save it a JPEG but something went wrong, I couldn't open any of the files on my desktop (when I clicked on them they would just freeze up and no matter what I did I couldnt click on anything. Then I found out that my folders wont open. None of them. I click on them and they just wont open, The only way I can access any of my files/pictures is indirectly, like when you go to upload them to a site. Not only that but I also cant open flash-drives. Im so confused and I know next to nothing about these things. Please Help.....

Is it possible that you may have changed the folder permissions? Check your folder permissions. It could also be a mount issue for which may get corrected by rebooting provided valid mount information is configured.

others may get mad at me but i would try opening them in root, there may be some permission issues with you opening the files you are trying to open them so under root you should be able to open them
