I'm a MS IDIOT Help me!

Ok for starters. I finally got Redhat 9 to dual boot on my system without killing XP. But there are a few things that RH didn't pick up on install. I can't seem to get my video card to work at all. I tried to install the RPMs but i still have no Graphics card. "ati 9600" I know that setting up a winmodem is pretty hard and have not even tried to get that going "agere" My mouse is slow. RH always loads the generic drivers" Microsoft ps/2 mouse" and im able to pick it out of the drivers list and it works fine until i reboot or shutdown, then it loads the same generic drivers. I am wondering if I should wait and go without a video card until next week when I am getting Mandrake 10? Also, does Mandrake 10 even support the ATI 9600? If anyone knows how to get the Agere modem windows driver"" to work that would really help out and save me alot of time" and an added plus keep me out of windows"

You can't get a desktop at all? That's what would happen if your video card didn't work at all. Try using the "radeon" driver, then "vesa" or "fbdev".

What do you mean, the mouse is "slow?" Moves across the screen too slow? That would be a job for your desktop's configuration, not the system's. There's a separate panel for that.

Also, you might want to look into Fedora Core, which is the newer Red Hat. More up to date, might work better.

The 2.6 kernel, which ships with Mandrake 10 as well as other new Linux releases like SuSE, Fedora Core etc does support the ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card.

However, the 2.4 kernel doesn't have support for your card, but if you want to get it working, you can download the driver from ATI and follow the instructions on how to install it.

Got no answers to your mousy problems, but check out this site to see if your winmodem has a driver for Linux.
Normally I advice people to use an external serial modem with Linux (Hayes Zoom have Linux support!) because 99% of them will work under Linux. With winmodems it depends on the chipset. In any case, it is a rather painful experience to try and configure a winmodem if no driver is supplied with your distro.

Good luck!

I am able to get to the desktop. The problem is that it will only load the generic drivers. All the video is thrown off onto my CPU

PS WMD are you part of the MES?
