hyperterminal

Is there an equivalent of hyperterminal in Linux? I am running Slackware.
I would like to connect to the console port of my Cisco 2501 router. I already have telnet figured out, however, for initial settings (if I were to erase the Cisco configuration), access to the console port in the router is needed.

Thanks,

Gary

I have tried the cu command. Specifically, cu -l ttyS0. I get a connected message but can't type anything. I have verified the cable by connecting to my windows system with hyperterminal. I can talk to the router fine. What am I doing wrong? Am I messing up the cu command or is there something else I must do?

Hyperterminal is just a gui telnet (broadly speaking). You could try Minicom.

I have tried minicom, but I can-t get minicom to go online. This is a direct connection to my Cisco router, not through a modem. I have it set to 9600 baud. The cable and connection have been verified through another computer using hyperterminal. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gary
