http vs. ftp?

Hello everybody!
I've got 'Mandriva 2006' download version on my pc and im trying to get everything upto date and configured properly. the thing is, I dont have a clue about which repositories are best for me. What is the difference between http and ftp and which one should i be adding to my media manager?
Im going to try the urpmi web sight as well.

my other problem at the moment is, im failing each time i try to add a repository that 'mandriva.com' gave me for purchasing a 'silver club membership'. I guess its a repository that only members have access to but it does not work! Any info on this?

THANKS! Scott

It does not matter for you, either HTTP or FTP.

The main difference for practical purposes might be if you're behind a firewall and only certain ports are open - you might find that one of http and/or ftp works, and the other doesn't. Though for everyday purposes, you're unlikely to see any difference.

I tend to prefer ftp since it's, you know, a protocol for transferring files, and you'd be hard-pressed to call binary packages hypertext... ;)
