HSF modem + driver + Kppp = Aaaargh

I am slowing making my way through the world of Linux and have hit on a mystery. I am trying to use my PCI Conexant Soft56k modem(yeah, I know its a winmodem) with WinLinux 2001. I downloaded the drivers and have tried without success to access the modem. I made sure that the driver compiled the appropriate modules and that it made a link to /dev/modem. I just can't get the modem to be recognized by kppp or wvdial. Sending ppp commands to the modem have yielded nothing. I am running 1 Ghz Athlon, 393 MB, WinLinux 2001. Any hope on this matter will be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance,

Try to run pppd directly from console and look what error it shows.
I don't know how does this driver look like, but
insmode modulename
should install the driver, then pppd should work correctly.

The driver appears to be loaded (checked /proc/devices and saw the new ttySHSF0 which is what is suppose to happen). I tried ppp commands but get nothing. Even Wvdial just gives me a in/out error...The mystery continues....
Thanks again.

P.S. I sent an email to the writer of the conexant drivers in the hopes of getting some clarity on the subject...

I have the same error and have the same modem (Conexant Soft56k PCI modem), when use kppp for connect this makes the connection succesfully, but not send and receive any data, I used too gnome-ppp to connect, but when be connected, the daemon dies "inesperately" I suposse that is the same error that kppp, but this not show the error message.

Can help me too???

I have tried the drivers and checked the log messages which read "input/output error (5)" when I try to use the pppd commands. Any help would be appreciated....
Thanks in advance

umm isnt winlinux 2001 based on rh7.0 and winlinux 2000 based on rh6.0?

d5wstat 07-19-2002 05:36 PM

You are absolutely right. I downloaded the RH 7.0 driver and it appears to configure the modem but I get the errors I mentioned earlier. The device is definitely loaded as per cat /proc/devices...loaded as ttySHSF0 and making a link doesn't work.
Thanks again
