HP Pavillion DV5 - Broadcom 802.11 b/g ver 5.10.38.26...was SO close

I am a noob - about to use my Vista laptop as a frisbee. Using Knoppix live CD until I get comfy, but not comfy without wireless! Found the Linux Wireless site and it seemed hopeful but I can't seem to get anymore info regarding chipset which looks like (from what I read so far)needed info. HP claims that info is unavailable on my 8 month old laptop?!? Where can I find this? Can someone please give me a nudge in the right direction? Thanks for any advice!

Do not despair, Ubuntu 8.10 should have the Broadcom driver(s) included by now.

knoppix is a great test run, but the Ubuntu Live CD seems to be better now (don't flame me, it's my opinion, deal with it ;)) for the newbie and includes better driver support.

Give it a whirl.

Bummer, but do have that distro. Installed inside M$ just fine, but I am lost still with the wireless. I am trying to learn unix/linux for school. Not required for my degree plan, but what little I have messed with seems like it should be - will make life much easier for me!! I fell in LOVE with Knoppix, but can't be confined to a wire! Was amazed at what I had been missing all these years.....and a bit angry about my personal contributions over the years to M$! Thanks for the help!!
