Thumbs up HP Deskjet 3940 Printer not working in linux

hai
thanks for ur reply.i m using fc6.My printer is HP Deskjet 3940.first i tried to install the driver using hplip 1.7 tar file.when configuring it said net-snmp is not available.some one suggested 2 use hplip 2.7. and asked me 2 get source for net -snmp.i got that source net-snmp-5.3.2 from net.i installed that.after that i installed driver hplip-2.7.12 .it installed properly without any errors.i configured the printer by entering into System-Administration-Printing and configured for the newly installed driver.its configured properly.
when i gave

"lpq command" it displayed
Printer is ready
no entries.

then i gave "lpr filename" to print that file,it is not at all printing.

then i checked the status(lpq).whatever file i gave for printing it was there.

i tried 2 print from open office.then also it didn't print.

when i connected printer in another windows machine where the driver is installed using cd,it worked fine.

there is no problem in printer.just now we serviced that.

tell me some other method to make it work.

waiting for reply.

thanks in advance.

Why not just install hplip from rpm ? I would think you could just yum install hplip
or if that doesn't work.. http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...submit=Search+...

hplip should be part of your distribution already, you shouldn't need to compile it for Fedora

If you use CUPS and the printer is supported (or you have a driver for it), open a web browser and open address http://127.0.0.1:631 which will bring up the CUPS administration web interface. You can use it to configure your printers, it should be fairly easy..
