Howto installing files

Hi all,

I'm newbie in linux at I do not have any idea how to install files on linux.

1. Archieves like zip, tar etc...
Of course I can extract them but where?

2. When installing RPM there are alwasy file missing with ".so" extension...
What does this mean? Shoult I download them from somwhere?

you can make use of search feature implemented on this site to reveal an answer to your problem. A little word about #2 - the files that are missing are dependency checks results that performed when you attempt to install rpms. Usually by running search on gets you what you need to install prior installing that particular rpm - .so files are shared libs (think of it as DLL in windows world)
