HOWTO dist. upgrade Fedora 15?
Under Debian I know I can run apt-get dist upgrade (or something to that effect its been years sorry). i am currently running Fedora 15. Id like to upgrade to the newer vs of Fedora if i can.
Code:
[ray@ray Downloads]$ cat /etc/issue |
As far as I am aware, Fedora isnt a rolling release distribution. In which case you will need to download the new iso, burn to dvd and reinstall.
edit after a quick look it may be possible, but have a look here first Fedora Project |
preupgade - you might get lucky.
See my sigline - it's likely you'll need to restore your data. |

The DVD installer gives you the chance to upgrade (I never used the preupgrade in my Fedora days, so I can't comment on that), but you can't jump a version; in other words, you can go from 15 to 16, but you won't be able to go from 15 to 17.

to use preupgrade you HAD TO DO A SPECIAL install of 15 FIRST!!!!
make the boot partition about 1 gig and not 100 meg if you did that then preupgrade ? might ? work the fedora 16 dvd is better and you can select an option to "upgrade" from that BUT IT IS NOT recommended . prepare for a FULL clean NEW install expect that you WILL have to do a new install or just do a new install doing a NEW full clean install after reformatting the drive IS recommended for Fedora EVERY 6 MONTHS when a new release comes out that is fedora . live with it and except that EVERY 6 months you will have to reinstall . |
