New Linux user trying RedHat 8.0 and having the same problem. I followed the confusing advice in a Dummies book to set the bootloader to "first sector of boot partition" and now I must use the boot floppy to start Linux.

I tried the Kick Start suggestion above but I don't understand what Kick Start does or how to tell it to actually make the changes I'm selecting.

The RedHat installation CDs do indeed offer the option of changing the boot loader options but as assaflavie said, if no significant kernal packages are changed then the installation program does not make any changes to the boot config.

Please advise. I don't yet have any Linux skills to fall back on and figure this one out myself.

I reinstalled RedHat and things are fine. I'm still curious about the solution but the need is no longer urgent.
