How would I use the dd (dump data) command
I have Mepis v6.5.02 set up as a dual boot with XP Pro and a third FAT32 partition I use to share files between the two OSs. How would I write a dd command to save a backup of my ext3 Mepis partition onto the FAT32 one.

Also, how do you get that little vertical line which i guess means pipe using a standard keyboards? Thanks.

The pipe is the "shift" character with the backslash (\). On most keyboards, it is printed with a small gap in the character.

dd if=/dev/HDA of=/mnt/fat32/ext3.img
