how would i install things w/ this extension?
i don't know how to unpack/install files w/ the extension "".

trying to install the quake III arena demo. never played it on linux....

i'd asume it's a self extracting script, so just run it.

chmod +x

.sh is a shell script, .gz is a gzipped file, so it sounds like a self extracting package :)
Read any README file or INSTALL which may have come with it.
Open a console/terminal in the directory it's in and run sh ./ I think :)

Edit: We have to stop meeting like this, acid ;)

rift321 04-20-2003 05:21 PM

sh ./
this was the first thing i tried and it looks like it should work, but it returns an error[127]

acid_kewpie 04-20-2003 05:22 PM

there should surely be a bit more of a substantial output that just that...

Proud 04-20-2003 05:26 PM

Hmm, would it be possible for him to post the shell script here acid, or is it too attached to the file? Even via hexeditor?

rift321 04-20-2003 05:31 PM

the error message
well, yeah there's more:

Verifying archive integrity: OK
Uncompressing Quake III Arena Demo... line 151: ./ no such file or directory
the installer has returned an error code (127) - cleaning up...

Proud 04-20-2003 05:33 PM

Did you forget to download a script that should have come with it, or should that script be in the file itself? Integrity checked out ok...

rift321 04-20-2003 05:36 PM

ugh no that was the only file i downloaded.... i opened it w/ hexedit and it looks like it needs some other script w/ it ... something like ./ as indicated by the error message

nothing else was on the download page by the way
