How would I go about installing winex on knoppix?

I typically don't play a lot of games, but every once in a while I'm invited to a LAN at a friends. I recently started using knoppix (after days and nights spent screaming curses at Bill Gates) and I need to know:

a) How to install WineX from source on Knoppix (please be very specific... I know next to nothing)

b) Will, or at least should, it play nice with other (especially Windows) computers when playing the game over a network

Thanks for the help in advance...

You need to study about wine in general. It is rather complex. It is not an easy solution to most problems. VMware Workstation is much much better. Then you just build a Windows XP virtual machine.

Completely understandable... I wasn't expecting an easy answer... just hopefully a very dumbed down version.

I did try out the VMware Workstation however. But it didn't seem like the most practical solution for my situation. I'm trying to avoid Windows as much as possible... not just use it on a virtual machine instead of a physical one. I'd rather just set up a dual boot system and ditch the middle man.

So, I guess now would be the appropriate time to point me in the direction of a wine study guide...

Games are the only thing I need to be able to run, because I'll be running linux versions of just about everything else. That's why WineX seemed most appropriate... of course, I'm shooting for free... that's why I wanted to install it from source rather than paying to get a nice little package with a bow on top.

Where do I go from here?
