How Windows-run pc join to my server?
Hi everyone:
I am a planning to run a server. Which linux server config will I configure so that windows-run pc can join in my network? Your help is highly appreciated. =) |
join your network? what does that mean? to be on the same network you just need to start the network card on the machine like any other... I'd guess though that you're talking abouit network shares and / or domain membership in which case that is done via Samba.

Sir, what I mean is I'm in a small office, just 5 computers, 4 of them are run by windows xp.
Im the only one running fedora core 4, I want to be their server. Is that possible? I want to network the PC's using linux. What part of the Linux system will I configure first? Please help.... =) |
I don't think that you can "join" your network, at least as far as Windows networking goes. You might consider reading up on Samba, for serving files to Windows machines. You might also read up on LDAP. Windows Active Directory is based on LDAP but I am not certain how compliant it is with the standard, if at all. Linux can host many typical small office services such as print, fax, etc. You can problable Google those with "linux print server windows network", ...
Good luck. |
their server??? again, what do you mean?? there are literally thousands of things you could serve on a "server". I'll guess at shared drives though, which again... is samba.

Sir, what I mean is, I would like to set up rules in my workstation and some restrictions, like in windows, the windows 2003 server.
I want to enable sharing and files not share in windows, using my fedora core. Is that all in Samba? thanks again guys.. =) |
yes it's in Samba
