How will linux run on this machine?

I'm considering installing either RedHat or Suse linux on my machine using KDE. I'm worried that it will run too slow, here's my specs:

P3 450
448 MB RAM
13GB 7200 rpm drive
TNT2 M64
Hercules Fortissimo II

Anyone have an idea how modern distro's will run on such a machine? Will KDE run too slow for regular use?

I guess it really depends what you want to do. You should be fine for a basic installation though. You might want to consider using something like Blackbox, because KDE can be a hog.

what a lot of newbies don't understand is that
you can run most of the software on a linux system
from any window manager, whether it is in the
menu or not. since kde can be a hog, you can
run whatever you like, and still run the kde programs
from there. blackbox, windowmaker, ice and afterstep,
all use little resources.

U neednt worry in any way whether linux will work on ur box . it will ..sure. my config is

p3 450
128 mb ram
8 gb hdd
40 gb hdd(linux instlled on this)
mercury m/board
***motorola sm 56 modem internal ****
yamaha ds xg sound card

i have installed redhat 8.0.. i tworks really fast. only thing that doesnt is the modem.. plz plz dont buy an internal modem. go for an external one.. serial type prefered than usb.. it will work fine.. sm 56 modem works only on redhat 7.1 & suse .. to be more specific it will work only till the 2.4.5 kernel version.

kde is comparatively slower than gnome.. try out the redhat 8 version with gnome , that would be faster
