How will I enable compiz in linux kubuntu? Error code

How will I enable compiz in linux? I found instructions on how to but i'm stranded.

whenever i type this command:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

it executes but later on shows this error:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Two things.
One, i found these instructions, http://www.pantz.org/software/compiz...untugutsy.html.
Two, does apt-get throw that same error for any package that you try to install?

Thanks,
James Glenn
