i'd say your best bet is a firewall appliance like ipcop, smoothwall, pfsense or astaro. no need to learn to do it yourself really. much simpler to use ipcop and add a few addons via its web interface.

Aside from a good firewall,
You can install squid, and squid guardian on the server.

hi,
but that´s firewall only prevent the acess to certain sites or prevent the infection of virus too?
for example if i check my e-mail account and there is some virus atach the firewall will do something?
if i have a infected file that i copy to other computer on the network that firewall do something as well?
there is some update of database for the firewall like we have in avg, norton etc?
thanks a lot for your help
:)

Sorry, don't understand what you mean. Whilst these are "firewall" appliances, they all run squid and AV.

If you only use linux, you don't have to worry about viruses.
If you have window clients, you can install clamav, spamassassin

A firewall will not stop a virus it will block in coming and outgoing requests.
Squid and squid quard can help you to block access to certain sites.

I would suggest to do some reading on firewalls, squid, mail server, spamassassin, procmail, clamav....
Google is your friend.

As much as it's nice to stick ones head in the ground when it comes to viruses, there are still plenty of Linux related threats which benefit from AV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...mputer_viruses

For a OSS Solution you might want to look at dansguardian, clarkconnect

just install SQUID+IPTABLES+DANSGUARDIAN u can filter all pharesed ip/url/domain and put all u dont want in blacklisted list.

Dansguardian also make scanned content to protect from virus where combine spamassasin n clamav antivirus
