It depends on your goal, distribution and applications installed. K3b and Brasero seem to be pretty common.

Use a CD burning program? Google for this, you'll find a lot of suggestions, K3b being a good one for KDE.

Since you don't say anything about what desktop you're running, or what version/distro of Linux, it's hard to be more specific.

This would depend on your distribution as to whether you have kde or another desktop. Most use K3b as the application within the environment. If you are using the 'cli' then cdrecord would be a good choice.

From the command-line you can use 'wodim'. Command-line tools like cdrecord and dvdrecord are actually a link to wodim on recent systems. Running 'man wodim' will give you a lot of details.
A good tutorial is available at IBM's developerworks site named l-cdburn.html, I don't have the exact URL, but a Google search should lead you to the proper place.
If you prefer GUI-tools you can use the built-in CD burn tool of the Nautilus file manager or K3b on KDE-systems.

no offense but that's kind of a vague question

how to do it depends on what it is you are burning to the cd

for data cds the quickest way would be nautilus's built in cd burning utility k3b or gcombust (or something similar)

for audio cds, k3b

for video cds (somehow it seems unlikely youd be burning video cds, but
just in case), cdrdao

for .iso image cdrecord or gcombust (maybe k3b can do this too)
