How to view videos on youtube & download them

Hi,

I am using debian on P4 m/c.I have swafdec installed but failed to view vidoes on
youtube and also download them. Also installed flashplugin-nonfree & Javaruntime.
Looking for any clue.

Thanks in advance,

What exactly is happening? Does it show any error?

Hi and welcome to LinuxQuestions,

It's most likely the conflict between the swfplayer and flashplayer as discussed in several threads here on LQ. Both cannot seem to work on the same system. Deleting the swf plugin should do the trick. In your address bar type:
Code:

about:plugins
and check if you have both the Shockwave flash player and the Adobe Flash player installed. Post the relevant information of those two here please. Also post what browser and version you're using.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,
Eric,
I purged 'swfdec-mozilla'.
purging 'swfdec-gnome' put 'gnome-desktop-environment' broken.
still have flashplugin-nonfree and no video on youtube.
shows "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

Thanks,

hi, gnath!

Dunno about your installed software but can advice what I'm using. I have Firefox and there is a plugin for it called DownladHelper. When viewing a page with needed media content (e.g. video from yuotube) you just need to click DownloadHelper's icon in Firefox and choose the right file to save. You also can choose between *.flv and *.avi if you install ffmpeg (apt-get insstall ffmpeg).
It works!
