Post How to use this FireWire iEEE1394 with RedHat 8.0

Hi Guys,

This is my first question on this forum, and I do not know in wich category I should put it, but the sure thing is I am a newbie

I have this nice laptop IBM A31p on which I installed the RedHat 8.0.
It has a firewire ieee1394 card.

So the thing I know is I have an ohci1394 something which is started up at booting. And this is it for my knowledge of what is going on.

On the other side I have this DV Video Camera I would like to connect to my laptop for downloading my movies, and it could be a good beginning.

Well, I don't know what to do first.
Can somebody help or indicate me the right forum?

Man y thanks in advance.

Thomas

first you need to know where to find...

First you need to know where to find your answers, and then you can tell us how you fixed it. (links are below)

each configuration can be the same as some, and different from some other in Linux

Here's the manpage command to run from your console

man hotplug

it's this RPM: hotplug
http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2htm...&system=&arch=

RedHat 8.0 Manual

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...HL-8.0-Manual/

Where RedHat sez your drivers are, icluding updates:

RedHat-8.0 for i386:/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/ieee1394
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/redhat/...1394_Tree.html

some extra links

I hope that helps,
