How to use the Backup Tool to backup only files that have been modified, remove deleted and added files

I'm a linux newbie. I was wondering how to use the Backup Tool (I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon) to backup only files that have been:

- modified
- remove files that have been deleted
- add files that have been added

in other words to backup only changes.

I thought the "checksum mismatch" option would do it but it looks like it's still backing up everything.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you want to synchronise both ends of the backup. In that case, don't use mintbackup as it doesn't have that capability.

I use FreeFileSync to do my sychronised backups, but there are quite a few others available. Have a look around, or check the LQ 2016 awards (both File sync and Backup threads) - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ce-awards-123/

Thank you so much for response! I tried downloading and install FreeFileSync - I looked online but I still couldn't get it installed.

I was able to install luckyBackup and it seems to be working. I should have looked in the Software Manager before posting. Sorry about that.

Thanks Again!

No problem at all. I'm glad that you found a program that met your requirements.

Have fun!

If in the future you decide to try FreeFileSync and download it from their website, it is currently run as a portable application on your machine, not installed e.g. as a deb or rpm. That means, for example, that you have to set up any launchers yourself. If you want a FreeFileSync .deb for Ubuntu-based operating systems, then the Getdeb repo has one, although it's not bang up to date.
