how to play video files like .avi in totem based on gstreamer
I am using open suse 10.3 GNOME version.
My computer is not connected to internet so is there any way to get rpm for totem based on gstreamer to play .avi & other such video files.I know that mplayer can play everything but I want to know about totem. |
You're trying to install an old piece of software, which looks for gstreamer version 0.8. Look at the config.log file for more detailed messages: maybe it looks for gstreamer-0.8 as specified in the requirements. Moreover, you have to install the gstreamer010-devel package in order to compile some application against the gstreamer libraries. But - I repeat - if it looks for an older version of gstreamer, I think you have no chance.
Anyway, are you sure you really need it? Have you tried to install additional multimedia support? pitfdll only helps for gst-0.8, it was never ported to gst-0.10 and thus won't work on modern systems. No new updates are planned at this point. Here is an interesting discussion about Totem w/ gstreamer in the Opensuse forum. Apparently, no good news. I cannot be of much help, since I've always used mplayer and mplayer-plugin.

I think all you need are the w32codecs.Just to add ..I use xine mozilla plugin to play back streaming media..and It works pretty good ..looks better than mplayer to..

/usr/lib/codecs Im on Debian and used apt-get to install w32codecs..and those are the 2 folders i have on my system..Just make the /usr/lib/win32 and /usr/lib/codecs folder and copy them..When i was using Gnome on debian..I always just replaced the gstreamer version of totem with the xine based one.Just my preference.If you want to watch dvd's on pc youll need libdvdcss. |

Well I don't think you need every set..base and good ..I would want the streamer ffmpeg..heres Debian's description of it in synaptic..
FFmpeg plugin for Streamer This Streamer plugin supports a large number of audio and video compression formats through the use of the FFmpeg library. The plugin contains Streamer elements for decoding 90+ formats (AVI, MPEG, OGG, Matroska, ASF, ...), demuxing 30+ formats and colorspace conversion. others like gstreamer lame and gstreamer fluendo.. But i think if you want to use totem gtsreamer to play back media like quicktime,wmv,real ..your going to need the gstreamer pitfdll to make use of the w32codecs. In my distro,Debian lenny, it has pitfdll 0.10...I don't think it would be hard to find a RPM of it...you might have to download other rpms to meet dependencies for it..for example..in Synaptic..properties for pitfdll it lists these dependencies for it on my distro.. libc6 libglib2.0-0 libgstreamer-plugin-base0.10-0 libgstreamer0.10-0 libstdc++6 libxml2 and recommended w32codecs As far as what plugins are in each set..this should answer it.. http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/doc...n/plugins.html |
