How to use linux to host my photos on line
I have fedora core 3 :)
I also have a bit of hard disk space and would like to try and leave my computer on all the time and use it to let people see my digital photos. Is there an *easy* way to do this? Some application? I am interested to hear your experience and suggestions / advice :) |
If you run an apache web-server (most distros include one, but you may need to do something to turn it on), then you can just install Gallery:

I second that. Gallery is just some amazing software. I use it on my site. Check out the Linux Screenshots link in my signature if you want to see gallery in action.

I have to disagree, I didn't like the interface in the gallery. I found Coppermine to be much better.

That way you don't have to bother setting up PHP or some other scripting language. Also worth checking with your ISP that you can run a server on your connection. |
I personally like coppermine as stated above. It's more dynamic in my oppinion. Easy to setup and comes with a minCMS to easily add new pages or even build your whole site around gallery. Makesure to install imagemagick<--- best to use with any gallery:)

rjlee -> if you installed apache with your install
su to root then service httpd start then put your pictures in var/www/html/ (this is the default path in FC1 anyway) and make a webpage to display them using gallery, coppermine, or Photoshop if you have access to Win or Mac computer. |
a simple way is ftp, i use vsftp. its console thing. console stuff.
