How to use ipod nano on ubuntu

i have a second generation ipod nano. i've plugged it into mt computer (runnin ubuntu 6.06lts) it wont show up. i dont think i have usb 2.0 that might be the problem. but if it isn't, how do i fix it?

i connected my ipod to my system using suse 10.0 it had no trouble connecting right up.
