How to update WINE and keep my files?

Well, I downloaded and used an old WINE v. 1.1.14 to successfully install and use Microsoft Office 2007, and it worked GREAT!

But I want to update from this old version (v. 1.1.14) to a slightly newer version of WINE (v. 1.1.17) that is still not the newest available. (v.1.1.34) {So I can install something else that works with 1.1.17}

But I really want to keep my successful install of Office when I upgrade to v. 1.1.17.

Please help, this pretty important!

[If I can do this I will probably finally be able to rid myself of that Windoze partition!]

seeing as you are on ubuntu
use your package manager ( apt-get)to Update it

I need to update to a specific version of WINE that is not the newest version.
I think sudo apt-get will update me to the latest version, which will cause a regression.

apt will allow to install any version, but you will have to find and name the specific version of the package. You will need to check out the apt documentation. Somehow I think that you are afraid that MSOffice might not work with the newest version of Wine. What makes you think that MSOffice will have problems with the latest Wine?

So then I should run: "sudo apt-get install wine 1.1.17" ?

Or can I just install the 1.1.17 from the website?

Sorry, I'm a newb at WINE.

Oh and to answer the other guys post, I need 1.1.17 to install the Adobe CS4 per the appdb.

Thanks LQ
