How to update slackopuppy ?
Hi,
I just installed slacko puppy on my hard drive (Full Install). I want to know what is the equivalent of apt-get update && apt-get upgrade in Puppy ? |
Hey again hifi100 ... My recollection from the various Puppy distros I've used in the past (although I have not used slacko), is that upgrades are made available periodically as new ISOs which you can then choose to install over your existing version or if you're using either the "frugal" or "portable" methods with Puppy, simply following the appropriate instructions to use the new version. Puppy had its own package manager back then - can't remember the exact name of it but it used a GUI. The packages were called "pup" files ;-) ... The support forums were also a very useful place for all things Puppy related.
Cheers :-) |
Puppy doesn't release upgrades between versions:
http://www.puppylinuxfaq.org/first-s...ppy-linux.html Are you quite sure that you should have done a full install? Remember that Puppy runs as root, so it is not secure when run from HD. The frugal install, where the file lives on the HD but is still run from RAM, is recommended for that reason. http://www.puppylinuxfaq.org/ http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Frugal |
I have put a lot of effort installing. The installation process was a bit tough.
I don't want to abandon this installation yet. I will switch to frugal soon. The only issue I am facing is Keepass2 is not available in the repos. I have a huge database. Thanks for your replies. |
please consider using a linux distro that does not run as root all the time:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1617...-login-as-root http://www.howtogeek.com/124950/htg-...ystem-as-root/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princi...east_privilege as pointed out before, this isn't such a big issue when you use puppy in its intended form (live with persistence), but when installed to a HD it's outright dangerous. |
I'm not a Keepass expert, but I think you can download the latest version here: http://keepass.info/download.html

This lengthy how-to shows how to install keepass on slacko. Slacko doesn't have a huge data base of packages that can be installed by a few clicks like the ubuntu/debian based distros
|
I have deleted the Puppy partition and using it as live and saving configuration files on a folder on exit. Now Puppy is running from ram.
|
Since Puppy doesn't release upgrades between versions I want to get notified when a new version is released. Is there a way to get notified ?

I booted to Debian, launched Keepass2 and exported the database to csv. Now I can view the csv file under Puppy.
