Letís try it on the commandline:

$ echo -e "<webapp>\n</webapp>" | sed "/<webapp>/a foobar"
<webapp>
foobar
</webapp>
Do you get the same?

We are there thanks Reuti for your persistence much appreciated.

Now you can slap on face and happy to call me idiot!

The issue was I was using <web-app> instead of <webapp>!

Both techniques give by you work pretty well!
