how to uninstall X windows

Hi,

i've just finish install a Redhat enterprise clone as a server. i'd installed x server (gnome) on it to ease me in settup process.
now i've decided that i dont need the GUI because nobody going to sit down in front of it, we just use it remotely.

but i dont know how to uninstall it. at this moment, i just edit the inittab file so it will not going to boot in GUI. i want to remove the x windows completely, living the server with console only.

thanks.

Unless you installed X thru a package manager, it might be pretty tedious to remove it. First, see if it shows up as an installed package. If not, the easiest way might be to simply re-install without X.

There are numerous X-Window system packages. Uninstalling the entire thing would require you to remove all of them. After that you'd still have loads of unneeded dependencies laying around. You would have to uninstall those as well. Finding all of these components is very difficult and seems unnecessary. Just leave it be. You never know when you may want to install a GUI at a later time, in which case you won't want to go through the nearly-as-tedious install process.
