How to uninstall Kubuntu for Ubuntu installing
Hello everyone! I'm newby to Linux and installed new Kubuntu 8.04 but have some problems and cannot solve them, so I want to uninstall Kubuntu and later on install Ubuntu 8.04. In this moment I'm surfing from its live CD. Please help me. Thanks a lot, regards.

The only difference between these two is the window manager. If you had problems with one, you are likely to have the same problems with the other.
What problems did you have? It would be best to install one, and work through the problems. Most likely we can help learn to fix what ever was not working for you. If you still have one installed, please tell us as much as you can about what is not working. Be as specific as possible. |
Uninstalling Kubuntu
Thanks bro for your answer.I couldn't play mp3 I have in my Win folders besides I like Ubuntu more than Kubuntu. It's easier for me its GUI. Please if you could tell me I would appreciate. Menus are in a better Spanish that's my native speaking. Thanks a lot. Cheers;)

You do understand that you have one install that has both, don't you?
If you install one first, and then use the package manager to install the other GUI (add Gnome to Kubuntu or add KDE to Ubuntu) you will get a system which allows you to choose at log in which gui you want. Proprietary software, like MP3 codecs, is always a bit irritating, but you only have to use the package manager to download appropriate codecs. There shouldn't be a difference of principle between Ubuntu and Kubuntu here, but maybe the defaults are set up differently. Check whether appropriate repositories are enabled. Again, you should be able to set up either system to use your native language, but maybe you don't have the appropriate language files for KDE (package manager, again) or you need to use the control centre to set it up. |
When Camorri says: "The only difference between these two is the window manager. If you had problems with one, you are likely to have the same problems with the other."
I didn'really notice that Kubuntu/Ubuntu differ only in its GUI as you say Salasi: You do understand that you have one install that has both, don't you? and now it's going to be clearer for me. As I told you I am newbie to Linux and had no previous contact with this OS.So please be patient with me. About mp3 codecs, when I tried to play to day the same player went on looking for these and installed without problems. Languages are installed and now I have Spanish as my default language. Thanks a lot for your answers and help. Up to now I'm really happy using K/Ubuntu and will go on learning as much as I can. Regards and cheers.:D |

This can lead to confusion compared with some other distos for which you can say I've got SuSE/RedHat/Debian/etc and people know that you could have any GUI on top, or you can say I've got SuSE with KDE, etc. And it certainly doesn't help people who have Ubuntu and want to try a different GUI. |
Kubuntu Forums has a Spanish Forum which may help.
