How to turn off Xserver in the gui and turn it on in the command line
I'm a newbie to Linux. I have a GeForce video card. I know how to install it. I have done it in Fedora Core 2. I now have SuSE 9.1 Pro and don't know how to turn off my X server. Once it's off and I get out to the command line I am okay untill I have to turn my X server back on. How is this done?

use "init 5"
if it's the same as mandrake? |
That's just it. I don't know how and where to do that in SuSE 9.1. Where do I do that?

in console
I'm guessing your already there and have logged in. Put this in... su <your root password> init 5 Then it takes care of the rest. Edit: Are you saying you don't know how to get to console? If so control+alt+F1 does it, or you can put init 3 in the console window |
None of that
gedit /etc/inittab (as in Fedora Core 2)? To disable Xserver I do init 3 Then when in the command line when I'm done installing my driver I do, init 5 Is that how it works? |
yea, make sure to log in as root too

I'm at work right now, sad but true, but when I get home I'll try that. If it doesn't work for me, I'll let ya know. Thanks!
