How to turn my digital pics into a movie?

I want to send an mpeg or avi file of photos with some music to my folks - How could I turn my images into video? I have installed cinelerra, and have figured that out a bit, but I can't figure out how to insert images over a period of time.

Is there a program that might do this?

Have a look at Imagemagick - I used to use this for making movies of rotating proteins. It'll be something like <convert *.jpg mymovie.mpeg>. There's a sampling option for it also.

Cheers, M.
