How to - to how to make a shortcut on desktop

Can someone point me to a How-to that explains how to make a shortcut with an icon on the desktop to a program/application?

I have Mozilla 1.4 installed and can run it by clicking on the Mozilla shell script in /usr/bin/mozilla and I have an icon (by default it is a little gear) on the desktop that I got working to open Mozilla when I click on it. When I right click on the gear (icon), is there a way to change the icon to the normal Mozilla icon located in /usr/bin/mozilla/icons??

Any help is appreciated.

If you are using GNOME you can right click on the desktop and create a "launcher". There you can type the command as /usr/bin/mozilla and set the icon as whichever you wish in the directory /usr/bin/mozilla/icons.

"is there a way to change the icon to the normal Mozilla icon located in /usr/bin/mozilla/icons?"

If you are using KDE

Right click on the icon.
Select properties on the pop up menu.
Click on the icon
Select browse
Work your way to /usr/bin/mozilla/icons and click on the mozilla icon
