how to take incremental backup


Hi,
Iam using centos 5.4,
I have to take backup of /var/www/html & /home folders every week to remote system, so that iam using this command tar czvf - /var/www/html | ssh Username@ipaddress "cat > /path"
with this iam wasting huge memory,
Now i want incremental backup which r modified files and folders only from last week,
I searched in google it shows rsync and etc but iam not understanding Please give me solution step by step for better understand
it will very helpful for me.

Hi,

Take a look at my guide under "Incremental Backup with TAR / simple FTP to another location"

you may achieve what you need.

rsync

You could also consider rsync.

rsync is excellent for this.

Read man rsync and rsync examples (and other pages at rsync.samba.org) and Everything Linux - A Tutorial on Using Rsync.
