if you install tomcat correctly, i.e. with a binary package that came built for your system, then you should already have a startup script like /etc/init.d/tomcat ready for chkconfig to use (chkconfig tomcat on). If you built it from source and can not use an existing package then you would need to find your own distro specific service script online, or potentially in a sample folder in the source code tree.

Thank you for your quick response.
I have installed tomcat from source. I have created /etc/init.d/tomcat folder and given a soft link in /etc/rc5.d/.
Now I am able to start/stop using "/etc/init.d/tomcat start/stop".
But I would like to add tomcat in chkconfig. Pelase could you help me , how can I add this ?
Do we need to mention the chkconfig in /etc/init.d/tomcat ? If so, what is the format?

well this is all in the chkconfig manpage, have a look there first and ask for any further clarification if needed.
