I think the command for Open Office is now,

OOo (OpenOffice.org)

I made a link on my desktop. Right click on the desktop --> new --> program link. On the Execute tab, this is my entry. '/home/cliff/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/program/soffice.bin'

Your path will depend on where you have installed OpenOffice. You can pick the icon you like also. Took me some time to figure out how to add an application to the Start Application menu. Hope this helps.
