How to Start IRC(Internet Relay Chat) on terminal

Hello,
I am trying to use IRC on my terminal but dont know where i am going wrong.
I have downloaded and installed ircii-2.8.2 on my machine and with easyinst file provided in it.
the I used 'irc' command to start irc client on my terminal, it also worked and I got some these messeges :

Quote:
*** Connecting to port 6667 of server irc.debian.org
*** Connection closed from irc.debian.org: Remote end closed connection
*** Connecting to port 6667 of server irc.debian.org
*** Connection closed from irc.debian.org: Remote end closed connection
*** Unable to connect to server irc.debian.org
*** Use /SERVER to connect to a server

now when I am trying to connect to any server using

Quote:
/SERVER prozac.beyondirc.net
I never get Connected and it gives these output :

Quote:
*** Connecting to port 6667 of server prozac.beyondirc.net
*** Connection closed from prozac.beyondirc.net: Remote end closed connection
*** Connecting to port 6667 of server prozac.beyondirc.net
*** Connection closed from prozac.beyondirc.net: Remote end closed connection
*** Unable to connect to server prozac.beyondirc.net
*** Use /SERVER to connect to a server
I have tried to connect many different servers but same result.
my Internet connection is also good.

where am i going wrong ??

what else should i do ?

Usually to connect to the server you type irc in front of the server name
Code:
/server irc.freenode.net
Once you get connected you can issue
Code:
/list
that will give you a list of channels

Good luck to you.
