How to start graphics without logging in?
Dear friends,
I have problem in starting graphics mode on Mandrake Linuix 9.2 . It is giving error as krootwarning. Somewhere I read that instead of logging in as "root" and then starting X windows is bad idea. Then How shall I start windows ? where shall I enter commands in console mode without loggining in? or shall I log in as different user (other than root) and give startx command? What is this krootwarning error which is making my system idle at the time of starting of X from console mode? Kindly help me. |
create a new user and log in with that from now on and only login as root when you need to make changes to the system and even better to do that by going to a Terminal Sesson and running the su - command
edit: Do you want a graphical login or do you want command line login, command line log in you have to use startx graphical login you dont. |
you need to edit your /etc/inittab and change the runlevel to whatever graphical mode is for your distro.
for slackware it is 4. I think its 3 for most others. not sure though. |
Thank you guys for help. I have logged in as different user other than "root" and then entered startx command.
Now i am able to run in graphical mode but only in GNOME. If I start KDE mode system is hanging while initializing peripharals. Any idea? Also from GNOME mode, I could not find any way to go to KDE mode. II use mandrake linux9.2. Any patch I have to update? Let me know. Thanks a lot. regards Yogesh |
