How to setup multiple monitors in Linspire? I have a ATI RADEON 9600PRO

Hi

I've seached for this, but cant seem to get any where.

I just installed Linspire, and I have two screens. Currently they show the same image. I want to setup a desktop that stretches over both screens. I remember that this was very easy in Windows, but I can't seem to get it working in Linspire.

I've tried:
Control Center > Peripherals > Multiple Monitors

And all it says is, "You do not appear to have this configuration".

I've tried to get a driver from ATI's website (my video card is: ATI RADEON 9600PRO), but they are .rpm. And it seems that Linspire doesn't support .rpm, but supports .debs instead, which I cant find.

I was hoping that somebody could help me with this.
Any reply is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Try using the "ATI Driver Installer" link instead, which gives you an executable .run file. I use debian (also prefer debs to RPMs) and the installer worked fine for me. There's a specific option when you configure the driver about using a double-headed setup, so this should solve your problem.

Thanks alot for the help. But when I downloaded the .run file it turns out to be a plain text file.

And it looks something like this:
Code:

#!/bin/sh
# This script was generated using Makeself 2.1.3
CRCsum="1297359767"
MD5="7e3a99df03f615a7955b9f60c2c809bd"
TMPROOT="fglrx-install"

...

Just wondering, what am I supposed to do with it? Or should I open it with another program? I am completely inexperienced in this field.

Thank you.

I think that Linspire can install proper drivers for radeon.
You should just try to run fglrxconfig as root user and anwer all the questions and chose dual monitor support and restart X.

If you can't run fglrxconfig then you should try to install new drivers.
