How to setup a Canon pixma MG2510 on CUPS?

I am using XFCE4, and have recently setup the CUPS server to run the printer, a CANON MG2510. When configuring the printer under CUPS administration, couldn't find the exact model number, so decided to use the 3000 series Pixma driver.
I downloaded from Canon the exact printer drivers for linux, 3 sets, the generic linux, the print, and the scan.

I've sent some test print pages through the CUPS server, but nada through the printer. In XFCE4 "printing system settings" i've tried settings for both "bsd-lpr", and "cups", but still haven't managed to get the printer working.

Any suggestions anyone plse?

Which distro are you using? You should be ok if you've downloaded and the appropriate 'cnijfilter-common' and 'cnijfilter-mg2500series' packages ie MG2500 series IJ Printer Driver Ver. 4.00 for Linux. Did you install using the install.sh script included with the extracted tar.gz file? This installer takes care of the .rpm/.deb package install and printer configuration if present. Otherwise the packages can be installed manually, and then configured using your distro's printer config tool, or via CUPS web interface (using your favourite browser)...

Are you connected via USB or network?

With your printer connected and turned on, what is reported by the following?
Code:

lpstat -t
This will tells us the currently configured printer URI and status.
