How to Set up Red Hat Linux ?

I am using a Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 Motherboard with 4GB DDR3 Ram Celeron G460 processor and bus speed 1633mhz. Can I instal Red hat Linux on a new sata hdd with a dongle 3G usb Internet connection. Are there any procedures to be undertaken. All information would be highly useful including cheap Linux Books. I am from Goa India.

jimmichia,

Red Hat will install almost flawlessly in most circumstances. Up to now, I have not ever had an issue with RHEL in conjunction with SATA HDDs or wireless cards, SO FAR!! ( I have installed RHEL on several laptops and utilized the wireless cards)

Please understand that Red Hat is a distribution that costs - not a free OS. If you are looking for the FREE version, check out http://www.centos.org/. It is Red Hat's community (free) version.

Books are a little harder, as it all depends on the reader. Are you looking for a Red Hat book, or just a book on Linux, in general?

HTH

I personally liked this book for a Linux starter book: http://www.amazon.com/How-Linux-Work...ow+Linux+Works

If you want to learn about Red Hat specifically, I would stick to the Red Hat Certification books; however, I would not use them for my ONLY reference. I would encourage a book like above, a general Linux system admin book like: http://www.amazon.com/Linux-System-A...=Red+Hat+Linux and a general shell scripting book like: http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Unix...hell+scripting

These should give you a really good foundation for learning.

Good Luck!

Please read the "Red Hat Installation Guide" available for free at http://access.redhat.com

If you have any specific questions after reading the Installation Guide, please ask!

but if you MUST !!! use RHEL 6.5 then buy the required support contract
or
install CentOS 6.5 or ScientificLinux 6.5

but with the $299 per year for the standard RHEL 1 year workstation license you get TECH SUPPORT !!!!

for Centos and SL YOU are the tech support
