How to set up 3G internet through my phone on Linux?
 
I've tried searching around for info about this, but I've had a hard time finding the specific instructions that I need.

I use my Sony Ericsson K630i phone as a modem for my high speed internet connection here in Indonesia. I've recently installed OpenSUSE 11. I tried using some of the included network tools to set up my connection, but I'm a complete newbie and I think I'm doing more harm than good.

Could anyone give me some advice or perhaps point me in the right direction as to what software I need to use? Any help would be appreciated.

What is the output of dmesg n lsusb, after pluggin the phone. Remember that u should have root access to execute lsusb

Those above given are the commands that you need to type on terminal. These commands will give you some output that you should paste here.

"lsusb" can be run as normal user on Ubuntu.

Don't know about your 3G provider, but with Verizon you have to pay extra for "tethering".
Once the provider adds the Tethering function to your account it should go a lot smoother.

It is ttyACM0 n ttyACM1 that we need. Still as root, type:
Wvdialconf
Having running it successfully edit the config:
Nano /etc/wvdial.conf
Change phone no, user, passw to suit your need, ctrl+o to write, ctrl+x to exit. Now type:
Wvdial
If it succeed, u can use ur phone as modem.
