How to safely get rid of windows

I am buying a laptop that will indefinitely have some version of windows on it that I wont want. I just wanted to know how should I go about completely removing the old OS and installing linux, or should I try to keep both of them?

it would brobably be in your best interest to duall boot for a while, unless you are some sort of linux guru. especially on a laptop, where hardware isnt always as linux compatable as on a desktop.

but still, when (and if) you do reformat your windows partition, you can always mount it and use it as your /home or /usr partition.
