how to restore sound on linux mint
 

I have had linux mint for a few months. The sound was working.
I lost the sound and the sound icon on my task bar. I was able to get my
sound icon back on my task bar, but not my sound

I take it your talking about the volume control in the indicator applet. If you select preferences you should be able to select your card from the list. Make sure the alsa sound server is running or you will hear nothing.
