The best (and almost unique) way to do that is if you have some form of backup before the thing breaks. If you don't have a backup of your system, like an image created with CloneZilla, or at least of your documents, then the only thing you can do is reinstall completely, configure it like you want it and when you've got everything running, make an image using a tool like CloneZilla. If the system breaks later on, then at least you'll have your image to reinstall it to the same hardware. Be aware that any changes after the creation of the image will not be backed up, you'll need to take care of that yourself.
