How to restart USB?
Hi
Occasionally my mouse will stop working, its not the hardware as it does it with other mice, I still have keyboard access and can make it to a terminal Is there a command that will restart the mouse service? so far the only way I can get the mouse to start working again is to restart the system, and that isnt always conveniant :P Regards |
Did you try to unplug it and plug it back again?

Nope that didnt seem to work (first thing I tried)
A friend of mine talked me through some commands containing "rmmod usbhid" (cant remember the exact commands) but that didnt seem to do anything either A restart is the only thing that can fix it, but has also lead to other issues, whereby if I scroll up/down frm the mouse wheel it intereprets that as a right/left click Please help me fix this! ps the mouse I am using is a logitech MX series, USB although its connected via a PS/2 converter into a KVM switch |
may be problem is in ur mouse...
first check it by using in some of ur frnd's pc and use some other mouse in ur pc........ |
he just said that the problem also occurs with other mice...
did you only "rmmod usbhid" or did you first "rmmod usbhid" (which unloads the usb kernel module) and then "modprobe usbhid" (which loads it again)? @linuxusers: could it be that ial or hald is the problem? you could try to restart the hal daemon with something like "/etc/init.d/hald restart" |
Hi Seelen
Yes I had to rmmod usbhid and hid before I was able to modprobe usbhid It will correct itself if I restart the machine, but that is not always conveniant. So I assume there must be a service that has its cache flushed at restart, but I wouldnt know the first place to look :S Regards |
