How to reset forgotten root password

You are welcome,darktux; I boot up knoppix when I make a oops,have not forgotten my password yet,as it is something I can remember.

Another way:
At the LILO prompt type "linux single". You will boot into a single user mode, and at the prompt just type "passwd root" and enter a new password. Reboot normally, and the root password will have been changed.
