How to remove voice from MBR

During installation of SuSE 8.0 alongside WinXP, I accidently let grub be set up in the MBR. Now, I always get a woman's voice announcing something like "System failed memory test, now booting from opereating system." This announcement still comes despite later installations of various distros. Is this a WAV-file I can delete? How do I get rid of it?

Note I currently have no Linux installed, so I will have to do this from WinXP.

the Windows command

fdisk /mbr

deletes the MBR. However I don't think it will even start windows then

Have a look for a command to repair the MBR

That should be a bios feature for your motherboard, check the bios settings.

fdisk /mbr restores the master boot record instead of removing it, but it doesn't work in XP.

In winXP you can use "fixmbr" to fix it.

Voice on boot up is a bios feature. Check out the setttings in the bios for disabling it. Why don't you search on your motherboard and bios versions?

How to remove voice from MBR

You guys with the BIOS tip really hit the nail on the head. What a relief not to hear that voice every time I boot. Many thanks!
