how to remove installed program

hi there...

i had just installed the Skype program in the desktop. however how do i remove the program installed using the terminal. since i m a newbie, i would like to remove the program by typing the command lists.

can anybody help??

when is it appropriate to change to the root? Does that mean that everytime i want to download and install new programs i have to change to root by typing -su?? i m confused as to when i need to type -su in the terminal.

Please help. tq...

Did you do ./configure, make and make install? If so, just go back to the source directory you installed from and as root do "make uninstall".

su will give you root priviliges to do certain things you can't do as a normal user. this is usually for installing, removing software, editing certain configuration files and stuff like that. it's a safety thing so you don't accidently destroy your system by typing something a user ought not type. it's also a safety thing so if you get hacked, they can only attack your user profile and not do any real damage to your system.

you might wanna check out rute ...it's an excellent online tutorial.
