How to remove GRUB from Vista

I installed Ubuntu on my Vista PC some days ago. Ubuntu didn't let my PC boot so I reformatted the disk. Then, I Installed Vista from the recovery disk. But when I tried to boot the PC I got a Grub error 17. I tried to access the recovery console from 2 different XP CDs ( I have Vista installed) but it couldn't find my disk. What can I do?? Thanks in advance

Either you could reformat the partition and reinstall Vista so it can write to the Master Boot Record, or I would think that the Vista Installation DVD has a recovery thing on it. Boot that DVD up and look for a recovery console. Not sure what the command is to type for the Vista recovery console but I think on the XP recovery console, it was

Look it up on

But yeah basically, grub is on your MBR, you need Vista to overwrite the MBR so that it can boot up to Vista and not try to boot up to linux. Also, not sure if a recovery console from a XP DVD would work for Vista. Also, if you reinstalled Vista, do you remember if it asked you if u wanted it to write to the MBR, if so, you should've said yes.

First thing you should have done was search this site.
I hope that you have a full copy of Vista, and don't need to get at a recovery partition if you formatted that.

From recovery console on the Vista CD you need bootrec - there's help from the command line, also technet has a couple of useful articles.
