how to remove an .tar.gz file, Slackware 13 - 37

I installed the wrong file and now I would like
to remove it. It was one of those .tar.gz files
you have to install with ./configure, make, make install
I suspect files were installed all over the place.
Is there a utility for removing a .tar.gz file ?
I hope so. Otherwise, how would you do it ?

assuming you still have the directory you installed it from, you can usually just run "make uninstall" in the same directory, but standards vary wildly with vanilla source tarballs.
